Along the way, Haygood wrote multiple books, including biographies of Sammy Davis, Jr. In the coming years, Haygood would follow in Peeks’ footsteps, writing for the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, working as a national and foreign correspondent for the Boston Globe for 17 years, then writing for the Washington Post. “I remember calling my mother that night after dinner and saying, 'Mom, I met a real live author.’”
